As time went on, I stopped working in dance studios and began to do a little freelance teaching on the side. I didn’t like how the studio directors and managers taught this as a business. I understand that it’s the way they were making money but they always seemed more concerned with ways of capturing students in their numerous programs than actually teaching them to dance. I figured I would be better off on my own. I started doing private and group lessons at bars and in homes mostly for fun but with a minimal charge just to keep up with my bills.
