My heart was pounding as I stepped out of the hotel and walked hand in hand with Sophie back towards Camden Town. The early evening was still warm, and Camden was vibrant. People were out and about, partying, drinking, eating, and getting ready for a long night ahead of them. I gripped Sophie’s hand harder as we approached a group of young women dressed in fancy dress outfits, one of them wearing a wife-to-be sash. They were loud and enjoying themselves, and I was afraid they would point me out and laugh, but they said nothing as they passed. One of them even winked at me.
